Installation Process

How We Build a Perfect Lawn

The secret to a perfect lawn is 90% preparation. If the soil beneath is poor, the grass above will die.

01Step

Vegetation Removal

We use sod cutters to slice away the old, dead grass and weeds, exposing the bare earth.

02Step

Grading & Topsoil

We bring in high-quality, screened topsoil, grading it with a skid steer to ensure proper drainage away from your house.

03Step

Soil Cultivation

We till the new topsoil with the existing base, adding starter fertilizers to create a nutrient-rich bed for the roots.

04Step

Installation & Rolling

We roll out the fresh sod tightly, staggering the seams, and run a heavy lawn roller over it to ensure perfect root-to-soil contact.

Turf Planning

Crucial Factors for a New Lawn

New grass is fragile. Setting it up for success requires understanding your yard's environment.

Sun vs. Shade

Kentucky Bluegrass (standard sod) requires full sun. If your yard is heavily shaded by large trees, we must use specific shade-tolerant seed blends instead.

Watering Commitment

New sod must be watered heavily twice a day for the first two weeks. If you do not have an irrigation system or time to use sprinklers, the investment will die.

Soil Quality

Buffalo clay suffocates roots. If your yard is pure clay, we must import several inches of quality loam topsoil before installing grass.

Timing

The best times to install sod or seed are spring and early fall, when temperatures are cooler and natural rainfall is abundant.

Post-Project Restoration

Did another contractor destroy your yard?

  • We repair ruts left by heavy excavators and trucks
  • We fix lawns torn up by new concrete driveway forms
  • We install fresh sod around newly finished patios and pools to complete the look

Frequently Asked Questions

Sod & Seeding FAQs

How long until I can walk on my new sod?

You should stay off the new sod entirely for the first 2 to 3 weeks while the roots tack into the soil. Once you can gently pull on the grass and feel resistance, it is rooted.

When should I mow new sod for the first time?

Wait at least 2 weeks, or until the grass is about 4 inches tall. Ensure the ground is not soggy, and set your mower blade to the highest setting so you don't scalp the stressed grass.

What is hydroseeding?

Hydroseeding is spraying a slurry of seed, mulch, fertilizer, and water over bare dirt. It is cheaper than sod and establishes faster than traditional dry seeding. It is excellent for large lots.

Why are there gaps appearing between my new sod rolls?

Gaps indicate the sod is shrinking because it is severely dehydrated. You need to increase your watering time immediately to rehydrate the soil and the turf.
