Unlike standard patios that shed water off the side, permeable systems are engineered to let water pass directly through the joints into a deep holding reservoir.

Clean Stone Base Layers
We install layers of washed, open-graded stone (no fine dust). This leaves voids between the rocks where thousands of gallons of water can sit while slowly absorbing into the soil.

Paver Installation
We lay specialized pavers that have enlarged spacer tabs, creating wider joints specifically designed for water to pass through.

Permeable Jointing
Instead of sealing the joints with sand, we sweep tiny, clean aggregate chips into the joints, allowing water to flow freely downward.

While they solve massive water issues, permeable systems require a different approach to design and maintenance than traditional pavers.
Soil Infiltration Rates
If your yard is pure, dense Buffalo clay, water won't absorb quickly. In these cases, we install a perforated overflow pipe in the base to direct excess water away.
Maintenance Sweeping
The joints can clog with dirt, leaves, and mulch over the years. They require occasional vacuuming or sweeping to maintain their porous nature.
No Polymeric Sand
You cannot use regular sand or polymeric sand on these systems, as it will instantly defeat the purpose by sealing the joints.
Higher Initial Investment
Because they require significantly more excavation and expensive clean-washed stone bases, they cost more upfront than standard pavers.

How is a permeable paver different from a regular paver?
The paver itself is often the same solid concrete. The difference is the widened joints and the massive, crushed-stone reservoir built underneath it to catch and hold water.
Will they sink or heave in the winter?
Permeable systems are actually incredibly resistant to frost heave. Because water drains instantly into the deep rock base, it doesn't freeze and expand directly under the pavers.
Can I use permeable pavers for a driveway?
Absolutely. Permeable interlocking concrete pavements (PICP) are rated for heavy vehicular traffic when built on the proper sub-base.
Will weeds grow in the joints?
Because the joints are filled with clean stone chips and drain instantly, they offer a very poor environment for weed seeds to germinate, though occasional maintenance is required.
