Repair Process

How We Permanently Fix Pavers

We don't just add sand under a sunken brick. We dig down to find the root cause of the settling to ensure it never happens again.

01Step

Extraction & Diagnosis

We carefully pull up the affected pavers and inspect the base material to determine why it failed (water washout, poor compaction, decayed organic matter).

02Step

Base Correction

We add fresh, crushed aggregate base material, heavily compacting it in layers to rebuild a rock-solid foundation.

03Step

Re-Screeding & Laying

We lay a fresh layer of bedding sand, screed it perfectly level with the surrounding patio, and relay the original pavers in their exact pattern.

04Step

Joint Locking

We sweep in new polymeric sand and activate it, locking the repaired section tightly into the rest of the hardscape.

Failure Causes

Why Did My Hardscape Fail?

Understanding the cause of the failure determines if a simple repair will work, or if a total rebuild is necessary.

The 'New Construction' Sinkhole

Patios built right against a newly constructed house often sink. The backfilled soil around the foundation takes years to fully settle, dragging the patio down with it.

Missing Edge Restraints

If the plastic edging on the perimeter of a walkway is missing or loose, the pavers will slowly spread outward, causing gaps and sinking.

Water Washout

A downspout dumping water directly onto or under a patio will erode the sand base, creating a hollow void that eventually collapses.

Improper Base Material

If the original contractor used dirt, round pebbles, or stone dust instead of crushed, angular aggregate, the base will never fully compact and will always shift.

Combine and Save

If we are already on-site fixing a section, it is the perfect time to address the whole patio.

  • Power wash and re-sand the entire patio after the repair
  • Apply a protective sealer to blend the old and new areas
  • Install a buried downspout to fix the water issue permanently

Frequently Asked Questions

Hardscape Repair FAQs

Can you match my pavers if some are broken?

If you have spare pavers leftover from the original install, yes. If not, finding an exact match for a 10-year-old faded paver is very difficult, as manufacturers discontinue styles. We do our best to find a close match or harvest pavers from a hidden area (like under a deck) to use for the repair.

Why is my retaining wall bowing out?

Usually, this is due to hydrostatic pressure. If the wall was built without proper drainage stone and pipe behind it, water builds up in the dirt, freezes, expands, and pushes the wall outward. We must dismantle the wall, install drainage, and rebuild it.

Is it cheaper to repair or just pour concrete over it?

Never pour concrete over failing pavers. The concrete will just crack as the unstable base continues to sink. Repairing the paver base is always the correct and most cost-effective long-term solution.

Do you repair stamped concrete?

We offer cleaning and resealing for stamped concrete, but we cannot 'level' or fix large cracks in poured concrete. Our structural repair services are focused entirely on interlocking pavers and segmental retaining walls.
