Installation Process

How We Build Un-Sinkable Driveways

Vehicular traffic demands extreme sub-base preparation. We over-engineer our driveway foundations to ensure zero rutting or tire sinking over time.

01Step

Heavy Demolition & Excavation

We tear out the old asphalt or concrete and excavate deeply, often 12 to 14 inches down, to reach stable subsoil.

02Step

Geotextile & Deep Base

We lay a woven geotextile fabric to separate the soil from the stone, then install and heavily compact a massive base of crushed aggregate in multiple layers.

03Step

Paver Laying & Edge Restraint

We lay thick, vehicular-rated pavers and pour a hidden concrete bond beam along the edges to prevent the blocks from pushing outward under tire pressure.

04Step

Compaction & Joint Locking

We run a plate compactor over the driveway to set the pavers into the bedding sand, then sweep and activate polymeric sand to lock the entire system together.

Driveway Planning

Crucial Driveway Decisions

A driveway must be incredibly functional while looking beautiful. We help you balance aesthetics with heavy-duty performance.

Paver Thickness

Driveways require thicker pavers (typically 60mm to 80mm) to handle the torque of turning tires without cracking.

Laying Patterns

Herringbone patterns are strongly recommended for driveways, as the interlocking angles distribute vehicular weight best and prevent shifting.

Snow Plowing

Paver driveways can absolutely be plowed. We recommend using a snowplow with a rubber or polyurethane cutting edge to avoid scratching the stone.

Drainage & Pitch

The driveway must be pitched perfectly to shed water away from the garage door and prevent ice slicks in the winter.

Popular Driveway Upgrades

You don't have to replace the whole driveway to make a big impact. Partial upgrades are very popular.

  • Adding a 3-foot paver border along the sides of an asphalt driveway
  • Installing a cobblestone apron at the bottom near the street
  • Expanding the driveway width to fit a third car comfortably
  • Tying the driveway seamlessly into a new front walkway

Frequently Asked Questions

Paver Driveway FAQs

How long does a paver driveway last?

When installed on a proper, deeply compacted base, a paver driveway can last 30 to 50 years. The pavers themselves are often guaranteed for life by the manufacturer.

Can I use a snowblower on a paver driveway?

Yes. Snowblowers and shovels work perfectly fine on paver driveways. Just be mindful of aggressive metal blades on older equipment.

Are paver driveways more expensive than concrete?

Yes. Due to the high cost of the stone materials, deep excavation, and intense labor required to lay the blocks by hand, paver driveways are a premium investment compared to poured concrete or asphalt.

What happens if a paver gets a bad oil stain?

That is the beauty of a paver system. We can simply pop out the ruined brick and drop a brand new one in its place. You cannot do that with concrete or asphalt.
